The TV Week - Monday 27th December - New Year's Eve

Monday
8.00pm Three Men Go to Scotland BBC2 - Griff Rhys-Jones, Rory McGrath and Dara O'Briain head to the Hebrides for another adventure on the high seas, sailing around some of the prettiest and most remote seascapes in the British Isles. Since none of the three men in a boat have any particular connection to Scotland, they decide to use the 16th century travels of dictionary writer Dr Johnson and his biographer James Boswell as inspiration.
8.30pm Celebrity Mastermind BBC1 - John Humphrys hosts a new series of Celebrity Mastermind. Taking part are Mark Lawrenson, Hilary Kay, Samantha Giles and Richard Herring.
9.00pm Upstairs, Downstairs BBC1 - Second part of the remake of the drama. Continues tomorrow.
9.00pm Marple ITV - Brand New Episode the Secret of Chimneys. When Miss Marple accompanies Lady Virginia Revel to a weekend party at country estate Chimneys, she finds herself in the middle of an important diplomatic gathering, which includes a number of Virginia's suitors. The strange array of guests clashes over dinner and that night Count Ludwig of Austria is found dead. When Miss Marple and Chief Inspector Finch discover a coded message and the remains of a murdered servant, Marple realises the secret of Chimneys is even darker than she imagined.
9.00pm The Most Annoying People of 2010 BBC3 - 2-part look at the most irratating people and stories of the year. Concludes tomorrow.
10.00pm Charlie Brooker's 2010 Wipe BBC2 - Charlie Brooker takes an irreverent look back at the past year. From the Chilean miners to the general election, from Sherlock to The Only Way is Essex, Brooker unhelpfully points a finger and laughs. With contributors including Doug Stanhope, Grace Dent and Nick Davies, and poetry from Tim Key.
Tuesday
12.30pm Just William BBC1 - Children's comedy series based on the books by Richmal Crompton starring Caroline Quentin, Warren Clarke and Outnumbered's Daniel Roche in the title role. When the Bott family move into Croombe Hall, William and The Outlaws are horrified to learn that they are banned from playing in the woods. But the worst is yet to come, in the form of the frilly-but-formidable Violet-Elizabeth.
1.15pm Wallace & Gromit's Grand Day Out BBC1 - Another chance to see the first Wallace and Gromit film.
8.00pm Penelope Keith: Lady of the Manor BBC2 - Tribute to actress Penelope Keith outlining her life and career. Probably best known for her role as Margo in The Good Life, her other television successes have included To The Manor Born, Executive Stress, Next of Kin and No Job for a Lady. Featuring interviews with some of her collegues and archvie footage.
8.00pm Smile: This Was Candid Camera ITV -One-hour special marking the 50th anniversary of the first screening on ITV of Candid Camera. It looks back at the show's greatest hidden camera stunts and explores its huge influence on TV across the world.
8.00pm The Institution of Christmas Lectures 2010 BBC4 - Scientist and engineer Dr Mark Miodownik investigates why size matters in animal behaviour. He reveals how the science of materials - the stuff from which everything is made - can explain some of the most extraordinary and surprising feats in the animal kingdom.
9.00pm All About the Good Life BBC2 - contributions from Richard Briers, Penelope Keith, Monty Don, Brian Sewell and John O'Farrell amongst others, All About The Good Life explores the enduring appeal of one of the nation's best loved sitcoms.
9.00pm The Miracle Baby of Haiti Channel 4 - At barely a year old, Landina Seignon has cheated death many times over and endured agonising injuries that most could only imagine. When she was just a month old, Landina was severely injured in a fire that nearly claimed her life, and her right arm had to be amputated, but critically it was the burns to her skull which placed her under such grave threat.
11.00pm 2010 Unwrapped with Miranda Hart BBC2 - Miranda Hart hosts a look back at the defining cultural, political and televisual moments of the year, remembering events that shaped 2010, or would have done if they had actually happened. 8.00pm Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice BBC1 - Documentary which uses spy cameras to get closer than ever before to the world's greatest land predator, the polar bear. The cameras are just a breath away when two sets of cubs emerge from winter maternity dens. They also capture the moment when the sea-ice breaks away from the island in the Spring, and follow the bears as they hunt seals, raid bird colonies, dive for kelp and indulge in entertaining courtship rituals.
8.00pm Les Mis at 25: Matt Lucas Dreams the Dream BBC2 - Documentary that follows Matt Lucas as he prepares for the performance of a lifetime, we hear from those involved with the show's creation including Cameron Mackintosh and Michael Ball, and of course we enjoy wonderful moments from the show itself.
8.00pm Marple ITV - Miss Marple tries to stop a court hearing when she discovers important new evidence about the 'Blue Geranium' murder case. Months before, Marple is attending a tense gathering at a village golf club when the dead body of a strange young man is discovered.
9.00pm Rock and Chips BBC1 - Period comedy drama and prequel to Only Fools and Horses, following the exploits of the Trotter family in sixties Peckham. It is Christmas, 1960, and Cupid's little arrows are flying through the wintery skies over Peckham. Fred is in love with his new charlady; Joan is in love with her new baby, Rodney; and Del is about to get engaged three times in the same week.
9.00pm Most Shocking Celebrity Moments 2010 Five - A light-hearted look at the 50 most outrageous occurrences in the world of the rich and famous this year. Among the bombshells examined are Cheryl and Ashley Cole's divorce, George Michael's spell in prison, and Robbie's return to Take That.

7.10pm Kirstie and Phil's Embarrasing Bits Channel 4 - To celebrate ten years on Channel 4, property gurus Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer present an evening of special property-themed programmes. Monday
5.00pm The Unforgettable ITV - A look at the career of Sir Harry Secombe.
7.00pm The Nativity BBC1 - Four part drama re-telling the classic biblical tale. In Nazareth, Mary counts her blessings when her parents arrange to marry her to a local carpenter, Joseph. He has a good heart, and she grows to love him as he struggles to build them a home under her mother's watchful eye. In Bethlehem, Thomas the shepherd struggles to pay his taxes while his wife lies ill. And out in the East, the Magi gather to discuss signs in the heavens that herald a great event. Continues all week.
8.30pm Miranda: Christmas Special BBC2 -It's Christmas and Miranda, for once, would like a relaxing and fun time without her parents. After Penny's Best Christmas Jumper Party, Miranda and Stevie try to spend Christmas at the shop with Gary, Clive and Tilly. But after online present shopping doesn't arrive, an infuriating encounter at the post office, a run-in with some carol singers and a couple of arguments with friends, maybe Christmas would be better with her family.
9.00pm Ruth Jones's Christmas Cracker BBC2 - The Gavin & Stacey Star hosts a Christmas special packed full of music, sketches and interviews with Ricky Gervais, Will Young, Miranda Hart and music from The Script.
9.00pm Come Rain, Come Shine ITV - One-off family drama starring David Jason as cockney ex-docker Don Mitchell. Don is incredibly proud of his son David's affluent lifestyle. The cars, the detached house and private schooling for the children were things Don could only dream about as a young man. His wife Dora, on the other hand, has doubts about her son's financial affairs. When David's life starts to unravel under a mountain of debt, family bonds are tested to the limit. Also stars Alison Steadman.
9.00pm Jamie's Best Ever Christmas Channel 4 - introduced by Jamie's daughters Poppy and Daisy and brought to life with animation. This first programme features all the recipes viewers need for the perfect, stress-free Christmas Day: simple and succulent turkey, tasty stuffing, golden roasties, luscious gravy and all the veg. Concludes tomorrow.

Tuesday
8.00pm Chrildren's Hospital at Christmas ITV - Lorraine Kelly presents a special following staff and patients at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in the run-up to Christmas.
9.00pm The Accidental Farmer BBC1 - One-off comedy drama starring Ashley Jensen of Extras as high-powered, London advertising executive Erin Taylor who gets revenge on her cheating boyfriend by buying a rundown farm on his credit card. Erin decides to make a go of it without realising just how much work is involved and the difficulty of adapting to an entirely new, rural life.
9.05pm Oz and Hugh Raise the Bar BBC2 - Oz Clarke and Hugh Dennis are on a mission to revive the good old British pub. Their plan: to scour the British Isles for the best independent drinks, soak up pub culture, and then open a pub of their own, packed full of drinks from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. But as they can't agree on what makes for the best of British and Irish booze, they're going to open two bars that will go head to head for one night only.
9.30pm Victoria Wood Presents Angina Monolouges Sky1 -Accompanied by some of the country's funniest female comics, Victoria Wood takes to the stage for a night of calibre comedy in support of The British Heart Foundation.
11.05pm The Family Channel 4 - The third run of the BAFTA-nominated observational documentary series follows the Adesinas, a large black British family from Hackney, around the clock over eight turbulent weeks. This is the sixth of seven episodes the seventh airs tomorrow night.

8.00pm It's Paul Burling ITV - Britain's Got Talent finalist Paul Burling hosts a comical look at the showbiz characters who have shaped 2010. He is joined by fellow impressionists Jess Robinson, Eve Webster and Anthony Spargo to present their own take on current stars in a series of sketches, stand-up comedy segments and musical numbers.
9.00pm Panorama: Supermarkets: What Price Cheap Food? BBC1 - Reporter Paul Kenyon looks behind the special offers to examine the true cost of Britain's cheap food, asking how the leading supermarket chains can afford to keep expanding and slashing food prices in the middle of a global recession.

He explores the origins of the universe, probes the inner workings of the human mind and sees the most powerful laser in the world. To finish, Professor Winston reveals the breakthrough he thinks is most significant.

Joe reminisces about a tipsy evening of naked wrestling in front of the fire with Bobby Carter, while Cheryl recounts her romantic encounter in the local supermarket car park.
